A cinematic portrait session inspired by the timeless elegance of old-world glamour.
Some looks seem to belong to another era — where every curl, every accessory, and every detail tells a story.
For this photoshoot in Vancouver’s historic Gastown, we brought together a floral cheongsam, vintage-inspired curls, long pearl necklaces, and a luxurious fur stole to create a look reminiscent of classic Hollywood glamour. Against Gastown’s weathered brick walls, old architecture, and warm window reflections, the city became a natural backdrop for a story suspended somewhere between past and present.
The model, a Ukrainian beauty, brought her own character to the look. With her hair styled in soft, sculpted vintage curls and her accessories carefully chosen to complement the cheongsam, the result was an elegant portrait with a nostalgic, cinematic quality.
The black floral cheongsam added its own personality — feminine, bold, and full of character. Paired with the fur stole and long pearls, it evoked the glamour of a bygone era without feeling like a costume. Instead, it was a reminder of how beautifully classic style can be reinterpreted today.
As a photographer and cheongsam tailor, I’m drawn to the way clothing, styling, and atmosphere come together to shape a photograph. For me, a cheongsam is more than a garment. It carries a distinct character, and when paired with the right setting and styling, it can transport us into an entirely different mood.
Gastown, with its historic architecture and interplay of light and shadow, was the perfect setting for this exploration of vintage elegance — a meeting of old-world glamour and contemporary portraiture.
Because timeless style isn't about recreating the past. It's about bringing its beauty into the present.
